Did we visit South Africa for its cities or savannas, bush babies or elephants, soccer or surfing, national identity or multiple subcultures?

Yes.

For years we thought vaguely about visiting South Africa, but then when we heard about ubuntu, we booked a flight. Ubuntu is a South African expression that means “I am what I am because of who we all are.” It’s about trust, respect, compassion and community—a useful philosophy in a country of 11 official languages!

So what did we find on our travels? Flower-painted pottery. Beach huts painted in every shade of the rainbow. Old tribal masks that looked like the future. A strong sense of energy and pride in this “African century.”

Above all, we found disparate prints and patterns that, combined, create new forms of beauty. Now we’re eager to share with you our original fashions inspired by ubuntu.
